Bina McLoughlin, Queen of Connemara, Galway, Ireland 1997 - The Story behind the Photograph
She was a queen by name and was a Queen of Hearts
I was with a friend in Westport Mayo who offered to take me on a spin as in this time I lived in Holland and my friends mother said maybe you will meet the Great Bina McLoughlin along the way who was known as a great character and who loved her Animals, who dazzled a small region of Ireland for 70 years as the "Queen of Connemara.
One of her quotes on the radio.
“But why would you get a grant for an ass?” Claffey asked her on his morning show.
“Well, why would you get a grant for a goat or a sheep or a horse?” Bina McLoughlin retorted.
“I suppose,” he said.
“Everyone else is getting a grant except the poor oul ass. He shouldn’t be left out. Wasn’t he the Lord’s earliest friend.”
