Untitled, Gujarat, India 1989 - The Story behind the Photograph
Untitled, Gujarat, India 1989

This photograph was the second portrait to cement my passion to specialise in Travel portraits. While in India in 1989,
impressions were coming on my left, right and centre. In a small village in Gujarat, this old woman was coming out of a hut. I took a few pictures and didn’t think much about it until I got back to Amsterdam. Remember most of these images are from pre-digital time; all shot on slide-films and you had to wait anywhere up to four months to see the results when you got back home and it was interesting that some people think she looks like ET from the movie which was the biggest movie of its time. I get a lot of comments about this picture and the rest I leave up to you.
