Untitled, Lombok, Indonesia 2001 - The Story behind the Photograph
Untitled, Indonesia 2001

In the Muslim culture, there is a fasting period known as Ramadan and goes on for one month. It ends with the Eid-al-fitr, the festival of Fast-Breaking. I happened to be on the Island of Lombok when a big open-air celebration was being held as the Mosque was to small. Dressed in holiday apparel (Sunday best), these women and young child were attending a community prayer service in the morning. I could feel at this moment I was in the right place at the right time as I had taken the ferry from Bali the day before not knowing what to expect but this was the Jackpot and no other photographers. When the service was ended I was already in a Taxi back to the ferry port and back to Bali.
