Schoonheid, Spakenburg, Holland 2010 - The Story behind the Photograph
Schoonheid is the Dutch word for Beauty, Holland 2010

On the recommendation of a friend, Mary Flanagan, who lives in Amsterdam, we went to a small village in Holland where people dress in traditional clothes on certain days of the year. Upon arrival in this village, I immediately spotted this beautiful, angelic girl. I said to myself, if I could go home with just one good portrait of her, I would be more than satisfied. With the carnival atmosphere and seeing her friends all dressed up, this little girl was so excited that she wasn’t sitting still for a moment. However, I couldn’t get her face out of my mind and still hoped to photograph her. Three hours later and just before they were about to leave, I saw her eating an ice-cream with her grandmother, whom I had been talking to earlier on in the hope when I would get a chance she would remember me and would make it more easier to capture the moment. I took two frames and then looked at the results (Digital Age). I turned to Mary and said, if these are sharp, I just got what I came for.
